The Reality

Dementia is the loneliest disease in the family.

It’s lonely for the person who has it — confused in their own home, frightened by people they should recognize, watching the world get smaller.

It’s lonely for the family — grieving someone who is still alive, exhausted from repeating the same answers, terrified of what’s coming next.

And it’s especially lonely at night, when sundowning starts, when the wandering starts, when the agitation makes no sense. A regular caregiver doesn’t know what to do when your mother demands to “go home” while standing in her own living room. A White Glove dementia caregiver does.

The hospital can’t fix this — they’ve already discharged the patient. The home is where the next 30 days are won or lost.

And home is where Comfi-Kare lives.

The Comfi-Kare Difference

What dementia care should actually look like.

Caregivers assigned to dementia clients receive deep additional training in:

Communication for dementia — short sentences, validation over correction, avoiding “do you remember”

Redirection techniques — moving past agitation without arguing or restraining

Sundowning support — environmental cues, lighting, routine, calming activities

Wandering prevention and response — door alarms, safe walking routes, identification protocols

Personal care without resistance — bathing someone who doesn't understand why they're wet

Mealtime and swallowing safety — common in moderate-to-late dementia

Behavioral symptoms (BPSD) — recognition and de-escalation

This isn’t generic care. It’s a specialty.

From Our Founder

“The disease takes enough. We’re not going to let bad caregiving take more.”

“In Rockville, Mr. D dementia turned to fear — he struck his daughter, Anne, mid-panic. Magna knelt low, softened her voice, handed him his old watch. His hands stilled. She taught Anne: aggression is fear, not him. That day, Magna learned real care means meeting terror with patience.”

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

At what stage of dementia should we bring in home care?

Earlier is almost always better. Building familiarity with a caregiver in the early/mild stage means fewer behavioral issues in moderate stages, when a stranger in the home becomes harder to accept.

Through environmental safety reviews (door alarms, locks, identification jewelry), structured routines that reduce restlessness, and trained caregivers who recognize wandering precursors and redirect early.

Yes — sundowning support is a core piece of White Glove dementia training. Techniques include adjusted lighting, calm pre-evening routines, reduced stimulation, and validation-based communication.

When 24-hour care plus environmental modifications can’t keep the person safe — typically late-stage with severe behavioral symptoms or significant medical complexity. The RN will tell you honestly when that line is approaching.

Standard Comfi-Kare hourly rates apply ($30–$34/hr in 2026). Specialized dementia training is included, not upcharged. 24-hour dementia care typically runs $700–$900/day for shift care or $400–$550/day for live-in.
