Companion Care Maryland

Companion Care That Brings the Light Back Into Your Parent's Day

You called Mom yesterday. She said she was “fine.” She always says fine. But the kitchen was dark when you visited Sunday, the mail was three days deep, and she didn’t laugh once.

This isn’t about her needing help with bathing yet. This is about her needing a person.

That’s what companion care is for.

The Reality

Loneliness is a clinical diagnosis now. We've seen what it does.

The CDC links chronic loneliness in seniors to higher rates of dementia, depression, heart disease, and early mortality. But you don’t need a research paper. You can hear it in your mother’s voice when she says she “watched TV all weekend.”

You’re already stretched thin — work, kids, your own household. You can’t be there four times a week, and you shouldn’t have to be the only person she talks to.

What she needs isn’t medical. It’s a friendly, capable person who shows up reliably, makes lunch, takes her to the salon, plays cards, and — quietly, without making a fuss — notices when something’s off.

The Comfi-Kare Difference

Why Comfi-Kare companion care is different from a “sitter.”

A lot of agencies in Maryland will send anyone with a pulse to “sit” with your mom. That’s not what we do. Every Comfi-Kare companion caregiver is:

Trained through the White Glove Caregiver Program™ in soft skills, conversation, dignity, and senior-specific engagement

Vetted through CareOps HQ, our proprietary recruiting and quality system

Backed by an RN-led care plan built by founder Magna Johnston, RN (MSN, CMSRN, CSA)

Held to professionalism standards that most agencies simply don't enforce

If your mother is paying for company, she should be paying for good company.

From Our Founder

“Loneliness isn’t a small problem. It’s a medical one — and we treat it that way.”

“In Germantown, Mrs. Alvarez lived alone, unseen for days after a fall. Caregiver Nadia found her, stayed on the floor beside her, comforting until help arrived. Loneliness, treated as urgent as injury. Years later, Nadia still visits daily. Presence, not just care, built lasting trust.”

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

What's the minimum number of hours for companion care?

Most Maryland home care agencies require a 4-hour minimum visit, and Comfi-Kare follows the same standard. This ensures the caregiver has time to do the visit well — not rush through it.

Yes. All Comfi-Kare caregivers are licensed drivers with current insurance. Transportation to medical appointments, religious services, the salon, the grocery store, and family events is part of companion care.

Companion care focuses on engagement, light household help, and safety monitoring. Personal care adds hands-on assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility. Many Comfi-Kare clients use a blend of both.

We make consistency a priority. CareOps HQ matches your loved one with a primary caregiver and a backup so you’re not getting a stranger every time.

Companion care in Maryland generally ranges from $32–$40 per hour in 2026. RN oversight is included in our rate.

Let's start with a free, nurse-led assessment.

No pressure, no obligation. Care can begin within 24–48 hours.
